Based on information from information from Martin Matthews, Helston OCS - "nobody knows for sure but he once met an old man who claimed he had a deed relating to a Walter Trout who owned a mine in the area. It is believed that this became corrupted to Water Ma Trout and was a translation of Trout's Own Mine. Because of the similarity to another mine towards Redruth which had a name of Redruths own mine it is likely that the story is true. Martin believes that the story is reliable and you should translate as 'Trout's Own Mine'.”
